We could tell you all about our great weekend at the Comedy Spot (and we were going to) but April Black put it so well that there's no reason to do anything more than copy what she had to say on Pamela's Punch. From our end, there's nothing like the energy of a full house, and when audience is sitting on the floor, well it's very attic-y, isn't it?

I don’t know about you, but the events that transpired in my attic growing up were not very funny (and usually involved lots of dust and bad Halloween costumes). On the contrary, the improv comedy troupe 5678 delivered quite a hilarious performance entitled “Things That Happen in Attics” at The Comedy Spot last weekend. Based on audience suggestions and dirty little secrets, this smart and spunky group delivered one hour of completely improvised comedy.

From inappropriate work conversations to ‘NSYNC’s sweet dance moves, 5678 was quick on their feet as they entertained a full house with ease. We were lucky enough to score front row seats before the theatre was overflowing with people looking for a laugh. Two goofy guys named Stewart Walsh and Chris Andersen opened for the troupe with a quirky little number called “Stewart & Chris: Fear of Love.” They even had a theme song.

While I would have been content watching 5678 for at least another hour, the show sadly ended and off we went to Chevy’s for some margaritas. Laughing burns calories, so we certainly earned them.

If your funny bone is aching, come see 5678 on Saturday, September 13th at the Bethesda Theatre (7719 Wisconsin Ave. – less than 2 blocks from the metro) for a one-night-only comedy show and art auction to benefit Luke’s Wings. Luke’s Wings is a local charity dedicated to the support of service members who have been wounded and provides families with the means to visit their loved ones at the Army Medical Center. 5-6-7-8 takes to the stage at 8pm followed by the art auction at 9:15pm. 5678 loves our fabulous goddesses-who-blog, Pamela Sorensen & Chancy Legendre and they are loving us right back!

Anyone who knows anything about improv (which is pretty much anyone reading this) knows that we are nothing, NOTHING, without an audience. And without these amazing ladies behind us, our audience would be... Ryan's family, Tommy's fans, and everyone who went to college with David. Hmmm... now that we think about it, maybe the title of this post should've been "fan love."

So... From the top... 5678 loves our fabulous fans, and the people who help us meet more of them!

Standing Room Only!

On May 31st, and June 7th, 5-6-7-8 brought their high-energy improv style to Artomatic, a month-long multimedia arts event that draws together visual artists, musicians and performers and brings their work to the community without charge. Both nights, the 35 seats at the dance/theater stage were full, and the spill-over crowd took seats on the floor and stood in the back!

The show "Game Day Decision" featured short-form performance games and longform scenework based on audience suggestions, and wrapped up both nights with a preview of their next show InstaPlay, which will premiere at Capital Fringe Fest this July.

Local photographer Nikolas Coukouma was in the audience on June 7, and graciously shared his photos of our set. THANKS, Nikolas!

5678 is gearing up for a large-scale fundraiser/comedy show/art auction to benefit Luke's Wings.

Luke's Wings is an organization dedicated to the support of veterans who have been wounded through the War on Terror. Recognizing the immediate need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Luke’s Wings provides families with the means to visit the veterans during their hospitalization and rehabilitation. By purchasing travel agency services and travel tickets for veterans’ loved ones, Luke’s Wings provides an immediate and invaluable service to the families of our men and women at arms.

Pam,Tommy, Min & Lisa play at WIT

Feb 28 - April 12. Two teams from 5678 perform in the Washington Improv Theater (WIT) "Fighting Improv Smackdown Tournament" a/k/a "The Tournament of the F.I.S.T."

Min, Pam & Tommy represented DC Improv, performing as 1-2-3 TV. Lisa teamed up with improv friends Dan O'Neil and Ed Kubal to form Kibbles & Bitch. Both teams were very excited to be included in this innovative program at WIT.

This year, in addition to WIT's own player teams the tournament was opened to include WIT students, as well as improv teams from local colleges and professional improv organizations in the DC area.

The participating 3-person teams faced off in 10-15 minute sets, in a single-elimination tournament-style competition.

When asked what he enjoyed most about the tournament, F.I.S.T. Commissioner Justin Purvis stated, "the intermingling of troupes, students, and players from outside of WIT. Any time you have a bunch of people getting together to play, it is always a blast."

We agree.

Dinner:Impossible, "Operation Improv"

the Food Network's Robert Irvine filmed an episode of "Dinner: Impossible" at the DC Improv. Irvine was tasked with improvising a gourmet dinner for a large number of people in a limited amount of time with the help of several alumni from the DC Improv Comedy School.
